JSW Steel Ltd. is one of India’s largest steel manufacturers with a gross capacity of 10MT as of 2011. JSW Steel Ltd. is the crown jewel in the business empire of the $11 billion conglomerate- the JSW Group, which in turn is part of the O.P. Jindal Group. JSW Steel has recently acquired a majority stake in Ispat Industries Ltd, making it India’s largest steel producer with a combined capacity of 14.3 MTPA. The Company has also acquired mining assets in Chile, USA and Mozambique, formed a joint venture for setting up a steel plant in Georgia and tied up with JFE Steel Corp, Japan for manufacturing high grade automotive steel.

A legendary name, Ispat Industries has a long history as India’s foremost steel manufacturer for a long time. Founded in 1974, by the renowned steel magnet Mr. M L Mittal, Ispat Industries would expand its influence by forming a strategic partnership in 1985 and be called Nippon Denro Ispat Limited, now known as Ispat Industries (IIL). IIL rapidly emerged as the largest manufacturer of galvanised steel products in the Indian private sector. On 21 December 2010 it was declared that JSW Steel will buy controlling interest in Ispat Industries at an enterprise value of $3 billion to emerge as India’s largest producer of the commodity with an annual capacity of 14.3 million tonnes
